Destin United hosting Journey to the Cross

Caroline Hare | Special to The Log

Holy Week is this week, and there is a special experience happening at the Destin Life Center.

On Thursday, April 13, and Friday, April 14, there will be The Journey to the Cross from 12-9 p.m. This is a come and go, self-guided, interactive walk that will focus on Christ’s last day on Earth. There will be 14 stations set up that will include artwork, thought provoking scenes, and hands-on examples of this time in Jesus’ life. The Life Center will be transformed into a garden, and have a prayer area at the end for anyone who wishes to receive specific prayer or even process personally. There is no registration required.

In addition, on Thursday, April 13, and Friday, April 14, there is an opportunity to participate in the Upper Room Communion Experience. You will get to experience what it might have been like on that amazing night at the table in the Upper Room. Groups of 12 will be led by a pastor in Holy Communion. The table is open to all; however, you must reserve your place at the table and sign up online. There will be groups of 12 every 30 minutes between the hours of 12 and 9 p.m. Whether you would like to experience this with your family, friends, small group, individually or Bible study, it is a great way to understand more fully what the disciples may have been feeling, and the love that was poured out for us.

This has been in the works for nearly two years, and there is an excitement about offering this time and space for reflections on the gospel message, sacrifice of Jesus, and resurrection power of Christ for the community.

All will be held in the Destin Life Center at Destin United Methodist Church, 200 Beach Drive. To register for the Upper Room Communion Experience, visit
