Local musician on a mission for life

Susanna Lynn | Special to The Log

In my ministry spreading the message of Jesus through song, I’ve been led to a special mission. I have recently released an pro-life single, “I Am Alive.”

I’ve always strongly believed in the sanctity of life, but a 2016 presidential debate took me to a new level of action. One of the candidates was conveying a stance that since a fetus doesn't have rights, an abortion could technically be performed up to the day before birth.

I was so affected by this, I began to ask God to save our country from becoming so callous to the sanctity of life. Then I asked him to lead me in what I could personally do. And I believe the Holy Spirit led me, because I immediately began writing this pro-life song.

I submitted it to my producer, Larry Rogers, then he recorded it with me in Nashville in 2017, and it was just packaged recently.

Although I’ve been primarily a teacher and a gospel singer throughout my life, I am so thankful that God has given me this opportunity to have a voice and speak out for those who have no voice. Scripture tells us in Proverbs 31:8: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; Defend the rights of all those who have nothing.” I’m still singing gospel music, but I feel it is a privilege and an honor to be singing this special song and spreading this message for the preborn.

I debuted it at the Florida State Sanctity of Life Conference in Lakeland, Florida, in October 2017 before the song was even packaged. It was an event sponsored by Florida Baptist Children’s Homes with support from The Porch Light and Orphan’s Heart. After I sang it, I received so much positive feedback and encouragement for the song from those at the pro-life conference.

Since the conference, I’ve had more opportunities to sing it at some very special occasions. Each year, Sanctity of Life Sunday is the Sunday after the anniversary date of the Roe v. Wade court decision. So this year, on Jan. 21, I wanted to choose prayerfully where I sang my song, as that is a very solemn day. I accepted an invitation from Pastor Ray Angerman of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Shalimar because he was having a special pro-life program, and they also have a Life Team organization at the church that embraces the sanctity of life for the unborn, infirmed, and the elderly. It was a beautiful program and I was honored to be a part of it. In addition, “I Am Alive” made its radio air debut when it was played on WPSM 91.1 FM during Sanctity of Life Week in January.

Now, I’m in the process of producing a video to accompany the song. I have assembled a team right here in Fort Walton Beach that consists of me and an ultrasound tech videographer. Living Images in Shalimar is capturing the newest “4D” ultrasound images of preborn babies for the video. The parents are thrilled that their preborns will be in the video.

To finish this project, I’m doing a fundraising campaign. And once the video is complete, my goal is to have this song and video promoted nationwide, providing strength to the pro-life mission. Eventually, I would like to have this song in every pro-life center across America. And my dream is that “I Am Alive” resounds in protest to every abortion rally, echoing louder than all the voices shouting for a woman’s right to kill an unwanted child.

The CD is available at with an informative six-panel packet for $4.99 or as a digital download for 99 cents. If you would like to be a part of this project, visit
