POOCH SCOOP: Destin dogs in disguise as Halloween nears
Pirate Pooches? Yep, and a few tried to stow away on the new Buccaneer pirate ship. But they were made to walk the plank. “ARRRGGG!” were the rumblings heard by all, but this pirate crew will dazzle your two-legged kids too. And The Scurvy Dogs Club is a great adult’s “date night” out. Everyone can be a Pirate on the Buccaneer! Call 850-269-0896 for times.
Some pontoon boat rental places also allow your dogs aboard, so call first and ask.
Owwoooo, it’s Halloweenie time. So, wrap that chihuahua in a homemade hot dog bun, or deck your Aussie out as a pirate, or put your poodle in a tutu. The possibilities are endless. Get creative now, cause the upcoming HarborWalk Halloween Doggie costume contest for our furry four-legged kids will be on Sunday, Oct 28 at 3 p.m. And it’s always been a barkingly good time for all. Check out HarborWalk events on Facebook.

A Night Life for Dogs? Nancy (Destin Dog) Weidenhamer is looking for solar powered lights for the Dog Park. If your company can give her a quote, please call 837-3190 during business hours. (Ruff, ruff. Remember our Dog Park is self-funded so please leave plenty of paper treat donations in the box at the Dog Park).
Digging Around. I read that dogs were self-domesticated wolves, that at least 12,000 years ago became attracted to the first sites of human inhabitation. They wanted to be part of our pack. They just stopped by one day and decided to stay. We’re so glad they did.
See Spot Think. Dogs can be as smart as two-year-old children according to research at the American Psychological Association. Border Collies are the top breed for intelligence and some are capable of understanding up to 200 words. It is true. My BC Tucker knows more than 100 words and follows many commands in Italian as well.

Think you’re a V.I.P.? Sure you are. Just try ordering someone else’s dog around.
