More than 300 area children got the chance Sunday to go fishing on some of Destin’s finest charter boats as part of the 18th annual Take-A-Kid-Fishing Day held at Harbor Docks.

The 325 children and chaperones gathered on the Big Deck for breakfast before boarding one of the 38 boats that participated in the free event.

Capt. Ken Bolden told The Log “We took 10 kids and two adults and everyone had a great time. Some had never been on a boat or even caught a fish before.”

The boats started coming in a little before noon at Harbor Docks where the youth and families enjoyed a fish fry and each child received a free rod and reel.

Photos of the event drew plenty of “likes” on The Log’s Facebook page.

The Destin Harbor Boardwalk Facebook page described the event as “pure awesomeness,” while Dara Hope Plummer wrote “My son said he had so much fun, and he can’t waits to do it next year! Thanks for everything and everyone who made this happen!”
