First Movember Stache Bash delayed till Saturday due to surf conditions

Special to The Log

UPDATE: The event was rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1 because surf conditions were expected to be non-favorable on Friday.

The public is invited to attend the first Movember Surf/Skim Stache Bash from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1. The charity contest will be held behind the Back Porch in Destin, 1740 Scenic Hwy. 98 in Destin.

November is Men’s Health Month and all contest proceeds will be donated to the MOVEMBER foundation, an organization focused on raising awareness and money for prostate cancer and other men’s health issues. There will also be an after party at the Sago Bar and Grill at the Palms of Destin Resort and Conference Center.

“We are really looking forward to raising money and awareness for a great cause that affects so many men each year,” said Justin Schluter, manager of the Innerlight in Destin.

Division prizes are being donated by VonZipper, Quiksilver, and Electric Sunglasses and all participants will receive a contest t-shirt. All participants must either have grown a mustache or paint one on, and there will be free mustache painting on the beach the day of the contest for all who would like to participate.

“We want to get guys just as involved in their health issues as women are,” said Innerlight Destin manager Sandy Washburn.

Registration forms can be picked up and dropped off at the Destin Innerlight, 862-A U.S. 98 E. in Destin. For those who want to donate but can not participate, donations can be dropped off at any Innerlight Surf & Skate location.

“We are really looking forward to hosting a fun, family friendly community event where people can come together for a great cause,” said Courtney Coffield, Innerlight employee and senior at Fort Walton Beach High School.
