Adonna’s offers sweet treats, light lunches

Adonna’s Bakery, which first opened a store in Fort Walton Beach, has been operating its Destin Commons location since July.
It’s not just cupcakes and cake balls, either. On a recent Monday afternoon, I stopped in with a friend to have a ladies lunch, and got a few treats to go.
The food Adonna’s menu is written with colorful chalk on chalkboards hanging prominently behind the counter where you place your order.
I have a hard time passing up quiche, so I ordered the ham and cheese quiche with a side salad. My lunch date opted for the chicken salad on a crossiant with romaine lettuce and tomato.
Other sandwich options include Adonna’s favorites such as the TBC or turkey, bacon and cheddar; the Full House or ham, Swiss, romaine, tomato and avocado; the Greek Goddess — a combination of spinach, feta, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper and hummus; and the chicken salad served with romaine and tomato.
If the favorites aren’t what you want, Adonna’s let’s you build your own sandwich from a list of ingredients.
The quiches they served on the day I went included ham and cheese, spinach and feta, veggie and sausage and cheese.
Adonna’s also makes a Cobb salad and the Adonna’s salad, which includes romaine lettuce, spinach, tomato, avocado, cucumber, feta and is topped with avocado ranch dressing.
Early birds stopping by for breakfast can pick up a breakfast croissant. You can mix and match a variety of ingredients including ham, bacon, turkey, eggs, cheddar, Swiss and provolone cheeses.
Adonna’s is one place you won’t want to skip dessert. The display cases were full of treats including Napoleans, Buckeye cake balls, cheesecakes and German chocolate cake to name a few.
My friend and I each tried the Napolean and the cheesecake topped with blueberries.
The Napolean was made of layers of light puff pastry with a Bavarian cream filling near the bottom and topping with a sprinkling of powdered sugar and chocolate sauce.
The atmosphere Adonna’s Bakery & Café at Destin Commons is a small place with counter service and four or five tables for diners to sit at. It opens up to a lobby area that services offices at Destin Commons.
We sat at a table for two and had a long, leisurely lunch with no one bothering us.
The service Our jack-of-all-trades server took our order, made our meals and packaged our desserts without a hitch.
A final taste Adonna’s is a great place to stop in for a treat or meet up with some girlfriends for a tasty meal.
