The Destin Fire Control District currently has three of its used Rhino UTVs for sale, with the minimum bid starting at $2,000.

The Destin Fire Control District has three Rhino off road vehicles for sale.

“We typically rotate them out every two years,” Fire Chief Kevin Sasser told The Log. “To help offset our costs, we sell the old ones through the bid process.”

Bids on the 2- or 3-year-old Rhinos will start at $2,000 and will run through noon Dec. 10.

Available for purchase are two 2009 Yamaha Rhino 700 4wd utility vehicles and a 2011 Yamaha Rhino 700 4wd vehicle.

The district currently has eight Rhinos in its inventory, which are used by the Beach Safety team to help assist in rescue efforts. While the vehicles have been used in a beach environment, Sasser said the Rhinos are meticulously maintained and serviced regularly.

“We disclose that they were used on the beach and under what conditions so the buyer knows what they are getting,” Sasser said. “They are still great machines.”

Sasser said that a new Rhino costs the district between $10,000 and $11,000 to purchase new. Selling them is just a way for the district to recoup some of its investment.

Bids must be submitted to the district’s main office at 848 Airport Road between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or mailed in a sealed envelope. For more information call 850-837-8413.
