PM UPDATE: Woman's body found in Choctawhatchee Bay

Authorities have not been able to identify the body of a woman found Sunday in the Choctawhatchee Bay.

Jeff Martin, director with the Medical Examiner's Office, said an autopsy is scheduled to be performed Tuesday. He said fingerprints have been collected in an effort to positively identify the woman, but additional testing has to be performed.

The remains were found partially in the water and partially across a rock at the seawall by an occupant at an Indian Trail home, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Martin said the remains were in the water for several days or weeks, making the identity of the woman difficult to pinpoint without more testing. He said the Medical Examiner's Office hopes to have some preliminary information on the woman after the autopsy.

As of Monday morning, the identity of the body found in the Choctawhatchee Bay behind an Indian Trail home hadn't been identified, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

"The body has been in the water for a while," said Michele Nicholson, spokeswoman for the OCSO. "We are letting the medical examiner's office do their jobs."

Deputies were called to the home by a house guest Sunday, who had found a woman's body partially in the water and partially across a rock seawall.

The woman's remains were taken to the medical examiners office for examination and positive identification.

It's possible that a tentative identification could be relased, Nicholson said.

"We know there is a missing person and a lot of people are curious," she said. "We are just going to have to wait and see when an ID is made."

The body of a female was found today in Choctawhatchee Bay, according to a Facebook post by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

The body was found behind a home on Indian Trail. The remains were partially in the water and partially across a rock seawall, the post said.

A house guest walking in the area spotted the body and called the sheriff's office.

The woman’s remains were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for examination and positive identification.
