Southern-style snow slinging heats up Destin in August

Special to The Log

Locally owned and operated Deep South Sno Treats will celebrate its grand opening at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 at 230 Harbor Blvd. The shop will feature unique and classic stuffed and topped snowballs.

“Being a Destin native, I wanted to be a part of the ‘old’ Destin and with all of life being restored to the beautiful harbor district, we found the perfect  location  to have a store front year round and serve up amazing treats and delicious food  rain or shine,” co-owner  Lori Moore said of being the first tenant in the recently remodeled Renaissance building.

Deep South’s signature flavor, “The 850,” features a red velvet cake and wedding cake flavored snoball stuffed with cheescake and topped with condensed milk. They will offer more than 75 flavors to choose from to include Mardi Gras king cake, tiger blood, blue raspberry and dreamsicle. To add to the southern flair, they will also have BBQ burritos and gourmet hot dogs such as the Bacon BBQ Dog and the Cubano Dog.

“Our snoballs are more than a standard snow cone. The ‘sno’ is a finer shaved ice than  snow cones,  resulting in a light fluffy powder-like snoball. It is like eating fresh fallen snow covered with your favorite topping that can be stuffed with ice cream or cheesecake,” co-owner Jack Moore said.

Deep South will also serve Sno Snacks, soft pretzels, cotton candy, pralines and cold drinks.  They will be open daily at 11 a.m.
