Girl loses finger when she jumps from boat

An 8-year-old Georgia girl vacationing with her family lost a finger July 27 when she jumped from a pontoon boat anchored in near Crab Island.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the girl caught her right hand on a hinge on the boat’s gate when she jumped into the water.

The child was taken by helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Woman's abdomen cut by propeller

A woman from Louisiana suffered a severely cut abdomen the evening of July 25 when she fell off a moving boat and was cut by its propeller, according to Okaloosa Island firefighters.

The incident occurred about 6 p.m. at Crab Island.

The 52-year-old woman was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Driver hits man outside of Belk

A driver hit a man working on the plant beds outside Belk department store at Destin Commons about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Destin Fire Department.

The driver and the worker were taken to local hospitals.
