A FLAIR TO REMEMBER: Destin United Methodist Church hosts 5th Annual Fall Flair (PHOTOS)

With the summer season behind us, it's time to embrace the autumn season with the 5th Annual Fall Flair at Destin United Methodist Church.

Even in its first year, the Fall Flair has packed the church's life center. Today, the craft’s fair boasts 72 booths featuring baked goods, homemade crafts, jewelry, books and more.

Walking around the fair, you'll be amazed at the level of creative craftsmanship that exists in the area. From wind chimes made of silverware, to handmade fishing jigs and even hand-woven baskets — the fair not only displays beautiful crafts, but exhibits items that are often made of recycled materials, promoting sustainable artistry.

Proceeds of the fair go directly to the church, which inevitably goes to the local community.

"We help local people," said Patty Roof, the Fall Flair coordinator. "Whether it's through our benevolent fund or by providing a place for youth to play basketball in a God atmosphere."

Even on a Friday morning, the church's parking lot was packed with people perusing the large array of vendors and placing bids in a silent auction featuring dozens of prizes.

Seeing the community embrace the fair is beautiful, Roof said.

"This is family," she said. "There are some vendors who have been with us since the get-go. Everybody in the church helps by baking or helping set up. What sets us aside from other craft shows is our service and sense of camaraderie."

Head to the Fall Flair today at Destin United Methodist Church, located at 200 Beach Drive. The fair is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 650-5658.
