Cane Pole Classic keeps kids smiling

More than 75 kids signed up and competed in the Cane Pole Classic, hosted by Emerald Coast McDonald's on the dock behind AJ's Sept. 28.

Kids, parents and volunteers crowded the dock, as one cane pole after another popped up with fish on the end of the line throughout the morning.

The event was free for children 12 years old and younger. It kicked off the Big Mac Classic, a fishing benefit for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida, which provides housing for families so they can stay near their children when they are hospitalized.
