35th Annual Seafood Festival officially cancelled, organizers say

Special to The Log

The 35th Annual 2013 Destin Seafood Festival has officially been cancelled.

"After much deliberation and discussion we have came to the conclusion that we will not be able to reschedule this much loved Destin tradition," a press release from festival organizers stated.  "After identifying all of the conflicts with other fall events, and coming to grips with the loss of our marketing momentum we feel that our efforts will be better served moving on to next year’s event."

Having to cancel the event was the hardest thing we have ever done, but it was the right decision based on the official forecast, according to the release. Having the storm not develop and impact us as forecasted was even harder to deal with, and made it difficult for people to understand. We take our responsibility of the Festival very serious, along with the safety and well being of the patrons, sponsors, vendors, and property hosts.

We appreciate all of the support that we have been given from our community in the decision to put safety ahead of everything else. We are fully committed to the success of the Destin Seafood Festival, and will continue in our vision of providing a high quality free family event.

Thank you, Destin Seafood Festival Team
