Airport Road turn lane under construction

Work is currently under way on a westbound turn lane from U.S. Hwy 98 onto Airport Road.
By adding the turn lane, officials say there will now be a safer area for cars to decelerate and queue while exiting the roadway.
The $207,612 project began in October and improvements are expected to be completed in 90 days, according to officials from the Florida Department of Transportation.
During the course of the construction, intermittent lane restrictions should be expected.
As for the turn lane itself, safety is the main reason for construction.
"This provides for improved safety and efficiency... and provides a mechanism for turning vehicles to decelerate to an appropriate speed while not impeding the flow of through traffic on the corridor," FDOT Public Information Specialist Tanya Branton told The Log in an email.
