Man tries to get refund on pants he didn't buy

Two men were arrested after they tried to pull a fast one on a local discount store, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

The two went to Destin Walmart on Emerald Coast Parkway and were spotted by a loss prevention officer going into the men’s department, where one of them took two pairs of paints and placed them into a bag.

The two then went to the customer service counter, where one of them exchanged the pants for an in-store credit.

As a sheriff’s deputy investigated the incident, one of the men identified himself with a name that did not match the Florida identification card found in his pants. He then admitted he’d provided a false name.

Both men were charged with petit theft first offense, and the one who gave a fake name faces a charge of falsely identifying himself to a law enforcement officer.

One of the men has already plead guilty and been sentenced. The other faces a plea date of Dec. 10.

Brother, sister tangle

A brother and sister got into it, according to an arrest report, and it was the brother who ended up being arrested.

The sibling spat took place at an Indigo Circle residence, where the two live.

The woman told an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy she and her brother got into an argument that became physical when he grabbed her by the arm. The report didn’t say what the two were arguing about.

The woman suffered an abrasion to her arm. The man said his sister pushed him and slapped him, and he didn’t do anything to her.

He was charged misdemeanor battery. His plea date is Dec. 10.

'Very intoxicated' woman accused of slugging deputy

A woman described as “very intoxicated” found herself in very hot water after she allegedly punched a deputy in the chest.

An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy was summoned to the Amvets post on Benning Drive about a trespassing situation, according to an arrest report. The co-manager said he wanted a woman, Mary L. Sperry, 54, of Destin, trespassed from the property. Sperry was standing outside the business and appeared to be drunk, the deputy noted in the report.

At one point Sperry punched the deputy in the chest above his nametag, according to the report.

She was charged with battery on an officer or a firefighter. She has a Dec. 23 plea date.
