Damage estimates reveal that more than $200,000 in merchandise was damaged during an early morning fire at Dollar Tree, which is located in the Emerald Coast Centre.

Firefighters from the Destin Fire Control District and the South Walton Fire District joined forces to battle a fire in the Dollar Tree store at 14069 Emerald Coast Parkway shortly after midnight.

"The fire wasn't that bad, but it was very heavy smoke conditions," Destin Battalion Chief Jimmy Taylor told The Log.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the fire, which was located in the middle of the store. They were assisted by the store's sprinkler system.

Taylor said the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal's Office are currently investigating the blaze. There were no injuries.

After talking to the store's management, Taylor said estimates show that "roughly upwards of $205,000 of inventory was lost due to smoke and water damage."

The store is currently closed.
