Info sought in Destin armed burglary

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is working to track down a man who attempted to burglarize a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Destin and then pulled a gun on a witness.

On Dec. 16 at approximately 5:45 p.m. a white male was seen attempting to gain entry into a room by using a screwdriver to pry open the door. When the man was confronted he pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the witness. He then fled in a silver or gold four-door sedan, possibly a Buick or Ford Taurus, keeping the gun pointed at the witness the entire time.

The suspect is described as a white male between 45-59 years old with a medium build, approximately 6’ tall, and was wearing a green jacket, a dark colored hat and what appeared to be prescription glasses.

Drunken boater gets lost in Choctawhatchee Bay

A man was arrested after he was discovered drunk on a boat, according to an arrest report.

The man called the Coast Guard to say that he was lost on his boat in Choctawhatchee Bay and needed help returning home, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office report. When the Coast Guard arrived at his location, they found he was intoxicated.

He was given field sobriety tasks en route to Destin and failed them, according to the report. Upon returning to shore, a deputy tried to administer field sobriety tests but the man refused and began to resist. He was arrested and booked.

His blood-alcohol level was 0.195 and 0.190.

He was charged with boating under the influence and has a Dec. 23 court date.
