After spending five years in Green Bay as the Packers linebackers coach, former Destin resident Kevin Greene is leaving the sidelines and may return to the sugar white beaches of the Emerald Coast.

When reached for comment, Greene declined an interview with The Log, but said he would be willing to speak at a later point in time.

Greene and his wife own two properties in Destin, according to records from the Okaloosa County Property Appraisers Office. They purchased a $1.3 million home on the water in 2003, then purchased a Gulf front condo along Scenic Highway 98 for $1.8 million in 2005.

During a 15 year career in the National Football League, Greene spent time with the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and two stints with the Carolina Panthers. Greene, a 2014 Hall of Fame finalist, ranks third on the NFL's all time sacks list with 160 — only trailing Hall of Famers Reggie White (198) and Bruce Smith (200).

For years Greene was a local celebrity in Destin, known for sharing his faith and fame for good causes in and around Destin. For a few years he even hosted the Kevin Greene Celebrity Surf n' Turf Fishing and Golf Event to benefit the Destin YMCA.

He joined the Packers as a coach in 2009.

"I am stepping away from the NFL at this time in order to spend more time with my wife, Tara, and our children, Gavin and Gabrielle," Greene said in an official Packers press release. "I will miss coaching and will try to return after our kids move on to college if a team will have me."
