LETTER: A bridge boondoggle

DESTIN’S DILEMMA? After an ice storm closed bridges across Northwest Florida, Destin’s Chris Clauson put together this map that illustrated Destin’s predicament. “Amazing isn't it? I don't think even a hurricane could trap us this way. Poor Okaloosa Islanders,” wrote Clauson.

Just can't understand why DOT had to close every bridge in and around north Florida. When I watched the early morning news, they were showing emergency personnel driving back and forth with little to no problems.

It is my opinion if DOT would have sanded the bridges and run a pilot car back and forth leading commuters to maintain a safe speed — as they would do during different construction projects — it would have alleviated the indecisions of our elected officials.

Simple solution to a minor problem.

My gosh, with all the information on the Internet or use a phone and call the DOT in other states that deal with these types of problems EVERY winter … again simple solution to a minor problem.
