DMS plants dunes in the classroom

After growing Sea Oats in their classrooms all year, the fifth grade classes of Destin Middle School participated in an interactive beach field trip earlier this month as part of the Dunes in Schools Program.

The middle school students collaborated with Americorps, Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA), and some seniors of Fort Walton Beach High School, to learn the importance of coastal dune habitats and restoration efforts.

“It is quite amazing to see a wide range of individuals working together to restore our local beaches,” Brittany Tate, education coordinator for CBA, said in a press release. “This collaboration provides a unique learning environment for all those involved.”
