The summer camp is hosted by Rocky Bayou Christian School, which opened in Destin in 2013.

One of the oldest faith-based summer camps in South Okaloosa has expanded into Destin.

Only in its second year, Rocky Bayou Christian School’s summer camp kicked off June 9 in Destin. The camp focuses on staying active and growing spiritual development.

“This is a great opportunity for kids to have fun and learn how to glorify God,” said Josiah Alldredge, manager of RBSC summer camp in Destin. “We plan lots of activities to keep the kids active and engaged, while also teaching them biblical principles.”

Rocky Bayou Christian School’s summer camp started 35 years ago in Niceville, and expanded to Destin in June 2013. The activity-based camp operates June 9 to August 1, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and accepts children 5 – 12-years-old.

“Whether you bring your kid for a day or the full 8 weeks, they’ll have fun and learn something,” Alldredge said. “I grew up in the camp life and love it. Not only do we focus on having fun and being active, but we focus on growing citizens of God’s kingdom. We train these kids for life.”

The camp’s schedule is action-packed with golfing and skating, trips to Ponce de Leon Springs and the Naval Museum, and much more. The camp even offers swim lessons with certified lifeguards.

“Safety is our first priority,” Alldredge said. “We’ve taught thousands of kids to swim, which is important here in Florida. Especially when we take our trips to the springs, we want them to have fun and be comfortable in the water.”

The camp’s team members are all certified lifeguards and Red Cross CPR and First-Aid certified.
