Rocky Bayou Christian School provides a faith-based education in the Destin community.

The Rocky Bayou Christian School in Destin will open its doors to local families, whose children are entering K5 – 6 grades, Aug. 11 from 1 – 4 p.m. for an open house. Jose Quilit, principal at RBCS Destin, hopes to improve student enrollment by inviting the community to visit the RBCS campus at Destin.

“We really want to explain what we do differently,” Quilit said. “We’re a non-denominational school that provides a faith-based education. We offer small class settings, which allow teachers to tailor curriculum specifically for a student. We want students to get that one-on-one attention so they can be successful.”

Before RBCS Destin opened in 2012, Quilit saw a “big need for our school in Destin.” He said the team of teachers and faculty at the school serve as an extended family for the students, using faith to also teach important values.

“When you walk down our halls, you feel a sense of family,” Quilit said. “There’s something about the atmosphere — it’s more than just a school. Our faith-based education really gives criteria to learn right and wrong. And when you come visit us, that’s the difference you’ll see.”

RBCS also offers a class devoted to students with learning differences. The principal will be available to meet, and teachers will be on-hand to answer questions about the school and its programs.

“Rocky Bayou Christian School has a long, successful history — it first opened in 1973. We’re going into our third year at the Destin location and really want to spread the word and let the people in the Destin community know we’re here.”

Rocky Bayou Christian School is located at First Baptist Church, 201 Beach Drive in Destin. For more information regarding the open house or to learn more about RBCS, visit RBCS at or call the admissions office, at 279-3727.
