Destin Commons outdoor lifestyle center expands in a big way
Step back in time 10 years ago. It was the grand opening of Destin Commons, the first open-air lifestyle center in the region to offer shopping, dining, entertainment and Class A office space. The 56-acre architecturally unique center saw hundreds of thousands of people flocking to the center to check it out.
At that time, more than 80 percent of the 75-plus retailers at Destin Commons represented the only store of its kind in Northwest Florida — stores like Talbots, Lucky Brand Jeans, bebe, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Williams-Sonoma, and many others. The center quickly became known for its many public signature entertainment events and won the hearts of area charities by donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to non-profit organizations through its Coins For A Cause parking meter program. Locals and tourists had never seen anything quite like this.
By 2013, the success of the center enabled Turnberry Associates to break ground on a new 100,000 square foot expansion phase that opened in July of 2014. There are 22 new retail and restaurant spaces in the expansion.
Fashion retail giant H&M, and Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl & Grill by Bass Pro Shops are major stores in the new phase which extends from Destin Commons’ iconic clock tower and playground area with its interactive fountain, to the southwest corner of the property at the corner of Highway 98 and the Mid-Bay Bridge road.
“The expansion architecturally blends into the existing Destin Commons with landscaping, lighting and décor to match,” said Destin Commons General Manger Bob Perry. “In addition to the new retail stores, we are particularly excited about the addition of 6 new restaurants, many of which feature outdoor patio seating and service.”
New expansion retail stores and restaurants now open are H&M, Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl & Grill, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Zoe’s Kitchen, Yogo Mogo, Charming Charlie, Icing by Claire’s, Destin Stars, Everything But Water, Sunglass World, Tervis Tumblers and Footlocker. World of Beer, Blend Lounge, Red Ginger Chinese & Japanese Restaurant, Boston Proper, Guess Factory and BCB Generation are in the process of tenant fit-out and slated to open at the end of the summer.
Voted “Best Place to Shop” by readers of Emerald Coast Magazine, award-winning Destin Commons continues to set the standard as Northwest Florida’s premier open-air lifestyle center. Set on 56 acres featuring more than 600,000 square feet, the architecturally unique Turnberry Associates center now includes more than 90 retail stores and restaurants offering the finest shopping, dining and entertainment, including anchors Bass Pro Shops, Belk AMC Destin 14-screen stadium style movie theatre, and major stores in the expansion are H&M and Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl & Grill.
Destin Commons also offers 70,000 square feet of Class A office space, free WiFi access, an interactive fountain, and Pirate’s Cove children’s soft play area. For additional information, call (850) 337-8700, check out our Facebook page, or visit www.DestinCommons.com.
