POOCH SCOOP: Nothin but laps of love at the Destin Dog Park

P.A. Melle’ | Pooch Scoop
"Bess" owned by Melissa and Tom Aiken, greets visitors at the Destin Dog
Park booth located at Fish Heads. Elaina, Morgan and Isabella Mailloux of
Wisconsin stopped by to say to hello to Bess.

A Canines Wisdom … “A loving heart is the truest wisdom.” … Charles Dickens

“Friends” T-shirts are for sale. Find them on the Friends of the Destin Dog Park FB page. The Logo sounds like the jingle from the Cheers TV show. “The Destin Dog Park, where everybody knows your DOG’S name!” Paw Script … They should add, “And they’re always glad you came.”

Woof … There are howlings of some new projects planned for the Destin Dog Park. Park lights for a “Nite Life” with your furry friends, pooch activity stations and brick pavers.

Show me the Money … The Destin Dog Park is self-funded. Without your regular donations, they cannot maintain or improve the park for your enjoyment. Please donate online by going to and click on the Destin Dog Park and use the secure PayPal.

A donation box is at the Dog Park, so feed it daily. Snail Mail to City of Destin Dog Park, 4200 Indian Bayou Trail, Destin FL 2541.

Tuckers Tales … If people did not have dog roommates, most would never enjoy the calming effects of a daily walk.

Lacy’s Licks … Dog gone it, why are there are so many car crashes? People should slow down, relax and live like we do. We wake up slowly, stretch every muscle, take a walk, eat lightly, drink lots of water, rest, play, and sleep.  Who says man is the superior species?

Where’s the Beach? The public wants a Dog Beach. Why spend millions again, studying the Brooks Bridge, when we know 60 to 90 thousand travel over that bridge annually. Build a new six-lane bridge, and open a Pooch Beach on Okaloosa Island with the money saved.

Is your Pooch prepared to Evacuate in a Storm? Okaloosa County can house a maximum of 600 pets in its three pet-friendly shelters. A county shelter should be your last choice, but if you have to go, you must provide for your pet. Get a Pooch emergency kit prepared now; a five-day supply of food and water, pet bowls, a carrier kennel, a rabies certificate and medicines. The county will NOT provide these things for your dog.

Wag N Walk 5 K Run with the Dogs is on Saturday Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. Register Sept. 1 to Nov. 14 for $20. Pick up entry forms at the Destin Community Center or City Hall.

Low Cost Shots Saturday Sept. 6 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Pet Supermarket, 99 Eglin Parkway NE in Fort Walton Beach. Call 850-301-0235 for other clinic dates and low cost fees on vaccinations.
