It’s almost October, and AJ’s Seafood and Oyster Bar is not waiting another weekend to kick off the Destin Fishing Rodeo.

This Saturday, Sept. 27, AJ’s will be hosting a full day of family-style fun and festivities. To start off the day, kids are invited to join in the Cane Pole Classic from 10 a.m. to noon, and continue into the evening with the 7th Annual Kid’s Wagon Parade from 2-4 p.m.

“It’s a great thing that’s free for the kids,” said Marketing Director, Tracy McCraw. “Kids come out, are assigned a fishing pole, and they can fish.”

Children 12 years and under are invited to fish in the classic and will be provided with free fishing poles and bait for the event.

As for the wagon parade, start decorating those wagons now; any nautical theme will do. Parents are encouraged to join in on the fun by helping kids with creative wagon designs and costumes.

“Children and their parents can take a wagon, make it nautical themed, and bring it to AJ’s,” said McCraw. “We will give out a prize for each participant, as well as prizes for best of show, most creative, best theme and the ‘Wow’ award.”

Wagon registration will begin at 1 p.m. with the parade to follow at 2 p.m.

Festivities continue until 4 p.m. with face painting, bouncy houses and special guests from Home Depot and Build-a-Bear on-hand with arts, crafts and other fun activities.

“It’s a very simple thing that is just fun to do with your kids,” said McCraw. “Have fun together, create something together and then come show it off.”
