Angie Nousiainen and Dozer the Therapy Dog

Friends of the Destin Dog Park: Needs a few more pawsome volunteers to help with their year round pet projects. Please attend the next meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the small conference room at Destin City Hall to learn more.  P.S.: Dog Park Lights coming soon.

Tail Waggin ambassadors? “Dozer” the dog greets passengers at our Fort Walton Beach airport to keep people calm and happy. Therapy dogs are canines that have been trained to accept the attention of strangers in public places. They cannot startle or be afraid of loud noises, be comfortable around wheelchairs and gentle with small children.

I’ll believe it, when Doggy’s Fly! Well howl all about it now to your friends on Facebook because VPS is a pet friendly airport that has a designated pet relief area between the parking lot and the terminal where you can walk Fido before and after flights.

Visitors may need a blood hound to track down the exact name of the closest commercial airport to visit Destin. Northwest Regional Airport aka Valparaiso aka VPS aka Fort Walton Beach, may change its name to: The Destin-Fort Walton Beach International Airport (VPS)

Lacy’s Licks: I’m one smart dog, so I know visitors could come more often if our airport began direct flights to Chicago and other major cities again. Most layover airports are not child proof nor pooch friendly, so we must drive to visit our Destin-nation.

Tuckers Tales: Our canine affection comes from the ability to love someone, whether they deserve it or not.

A Phlocking of fine feathered Parrot Heads? Yip, Yap, it’s gotta be 5 o’clock somewhere, so give the dog a nap and attend a rockin “People Party” with The Parrot Heads on Friday, Jan. 9, at Harry T’s from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Reservations not required, ARRRG just tell the blokes: “Ye ole matey Pirate Patty sent Ye!”                                                                                                      The Destin Parrot Head Club members “Party for a Purpose” and have generated thousands to help others in need. Sniff around their website at for info.
