Media Mayhem: Library launches teen competition
The Destin Library is hosting a soft-opening for its new digital media lab with a teen competition called the Media Mayhem Contest. The contest will give local teens, age 13 to 19, the chance to test-run the new digital equipment and win cash prizes before the general public is granted access to the space.
“We want them to get in there, use the equipment, and tell us if there are any things we need to improve,” said Library Administrative Assistant Tina Kaple. “We are letting the teens use the lab early to get a sneak preview.”
Kaple said the members of the Destin Youth Council were instrumental in planning the media lab, thus the library is giving teens ‘first dibs’ on the space.
The Media Mayhem Contest which will run from March 13 to April 10 will have a kick-off pizza party at the library March 12, from 6 to 7:30 P.M.
“Really it’s just an opportunity for them to see the lab, learn the contest rules and ask questions,” said Kaple.
There will be two contest categories: video and print, each requiring four hours of work from the library media lab. The teen that takes first in each category will be awarded a cash prize of $100. For more information on the contest call 837-8572.
