VOTE FOR DESTIN: City in the running for ‘Best Southern Small Town’

It’s hard to beat the natural beauty of Destin. This man was spotted on a recent warm day fishing from the beach in the Gulf of Mexico.

Destin has been named one of the nominees in the latest 10Best Readers' Choice travel award contest.  Destin has been selected as one of 20 contenders for the Best Southern Small Town category. The contest is being promoted by USA TODAY and gives voters four weeks to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Destin is competing against the likes of Apalachicola,  Abingdon, V., Bardstown, KY., Beaufort, S.C., Leiper’s Fork, Tenn., Tybee Island, GA., and Natchez, Miss., just to name a few.

As of Monday afternoon, Destin was ranked 14 out of 20, with Abingdon, Va., in the top spot. Natchitoches, La., Dahlonega, Ga., Floyd, Va., and Beaufort, S.C. rounded out the top five.

Voting ends May 25 at 11:59 a.m. (EDT) and the winner will be announced on www.10best.com May 27, then later on by USA Today.
