Bringing ‘Gumbo Love’ to Destin: Lulu’s restaurant coming soon
Gumbo Love is well on its way to Destin as Lucy Buffet’s Lulu’s restaurant is going up fast at 4607 Legendary Marina Drive along the Choctawhatchee Bay. Work began on the building project in January and already the first phase of the structure has been completed.
“It’s wonderful, we have a paved parking lot complete, and the exterior is just about complete,” said Chief Operations Officer George Martin. “The interior is also being worked on feverishly right now. A lot of stuff is being completed offsite and will be brought in such as the aesthetics that will bring that warm feel that you get at the Gulf Shores location.”
Martin said that as the second Lulu’s location, the team is eager to bring the same family-fun atmosphere that they have nurtured for 11 years in Gulf Shores Ala. to their new Destin restaurant.
“We are going to have a full white sand beach and Tiki bar on the back side of the building facing the bay,” he said. “It’s called the ‘Fountain for Youth,’ and will feature and area for kids to play in the sand with shovels and water buckets, corn hole games and other fun activities.”
As for the parking there are two options; by land or by sea.
“There is a walkover connecting the parking lot to the restaurant and we will have a 15-passenger tram bringing customers from their cars to our doorstep,” Martin said, noting the natural pond separating the parking lot from the restaurant. “There will be no boat dockage, but boaters are welcome to anchor and walk in as we will have a ramp coming up out of the water. We will also have a water taxi service that will bring customers in provided by Legendary Marina.”
Martin added that a climbing apparatus dubbed the, ‘Mountain of Youth,’ is planned for a second phase build-out in 2016. But for now, the team is focused on completing the building and hiring staff members as Lulu’s is scheduled to open in early June.
