Destin Commons breaks ground on new Whole Foods location

Passersby can now see large construction equipment and activity at the future home of the new Whole Foods in the Destin Commons.

The Destin Commons has broke ground where the first Whole Foods in Okaloosa County will stand.

“America’s healthiest grocery store” is said to be finished by the Spring of 2016, according to Whole Foods’ Public Relations Account Executive Teresa Shum.

“I think it is going to be a great addition to the Destin Commons,” said Destin Commons General Manager Bob Perry.

Right now, the Destin Commons is in control of the construction site. Perry explained that the Commons will build the shell of the building in, at the most, eight months. Then, the Commons will hand the shell over to Whole Foods where the company has less than five months to prepare the cosmetic look and layout of the building.

Perry said the store should be open before June 1 unless an unforeseen conflict — such as a hurricane — arises.
