Man accused of assault with butcher knife
A 62-year-old Destin man is charged with threatening another man with a 13-inch butcher knife.
Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputies were called for the disturbance on Aug. 19 around 10:30 p.m., according to the arrest report. The victim said he'd been arguing with Rickie Lloyd Sanborn when Sanborn had charged at him.
The victim said he pushed Sanborn down to fend off the attack and went into the residence into the living room, the report said. Sanborn followed and the argument began again.
Sanborn walked into the kitchen and picked up a 13 inch butcher knife before moving it "from side to side in a threatening manner," according to the report. The victim said he grabbed Sanborn's arm and was able to disarm him before calling the police.
The victim said he was in fear for his safety.
Sanborn admitted that he armed himself with a knife, the report said. He allegedly told deputies he wasn't afraid for his life, because he "walks the way and carries the big stick."
Sanborn is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 22.
