As part of the educational Wyland Foundation, local kids took part in the Water Is Life: Coast to Climate Challenge. The challenge is a nationwide art competition that encourages students of all ages to create art pieces and murals for a chance to win prizes for their schools.

There are three age categories for the contest: Kindergarten to fourth grade, fifth to eighth grade and grades nine to twelve. The mural that best represents the theme, “Our Coast and Climate,” in each age category will receive a gift card to Michael’s for art supplies and a custom Wyland art piece valued at $1,000.

The contest also extends to individual artists with categories for each grade level. Winners for the individual competition will receive art supply gift certificates. Deadline to submit murals and individual art is Nov. 25.
