Watersound Orgins Community to host second annual Great American Picnic
The Watersound Orgins Community will be hosting the second annual Great American Picnic on Oct. 18. This family-friendly event benefits the non-profit organizations Food for Thought and Children’s Volunteer Health Network.
“There is something for everyone,” said Lanier Motes, marketing manager for St. Joe Company. “October is one of the best times of the year because we all want to be outside.”
From 3-7 p.m., indulge in an array of food trucks at The Wind Garden Park and take part in activities like cornhole benefiting Food for Thought and other lawn games in partnership with CVHN. Guests can register for the cornhole game online by visiting http://stjoe.xorbia.com/GAPcorhnoletourney. The game is sponsored by Old Florida Outfitters and St. Joe Club & Resorts.
Food for Thought is based in Santa Rosa Beach and works to provide backpacks filled with healthy already prepared meals for students who qualify for free, or reduced school lunches.
CVHN began in 2005 with the mission to bring proper dental, mental and medical health care to children in need within Okaloosa and Walton counties.
Portions of food truck sales will go to CVHN, Motes said.
Guests will be able to enjoy live music from local band Continuum, beginning at 3 p.m. as well as the Atlanta-based band The Shadowboxers, from 5-7 p.m.
“We’re really excited for the headlining band, The Shadowboxers. They have quite a good following here and they aren’t a band you can see every weekend,” said Motes, who also noted Continuum’s popularity within the area.
“People can come listen to music, kids can get their face painted and we will have a photo booth … there’s plenty of fun for a Sunday afternoon,” she said.
Watersound Orgins’ Wind Garden Park is located at 573 Pathways Drive in Watersound. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit http://www.watersound.com/event/picnic.
