City of Destin's Annual Open House
This year has been a busy one for Destin with a record-breaking number of summer vacationers and the current influx of fall visitors and the city of Destin wants to recognize all the hard work of its residents and volunteers this year with an open house.
“It’s the city’s opportunity to showcase our departments and to really say thank you to our community,” Public Information Manager Doug Rainer said of the event. “We do that by having a free shred truck and a free lunch.”
The open house will be held Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Destin Community Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and all are welcome to stop by for mingling and a fish fry.
“Jim Shirah, head chef at Dewey Destin’s Seafood and Restaurant is frying our fish,” said Rainer. “Traditionally we’ve done a cookout, but this year we are changing it up a bit with the fish fry. This is the city’s way to say thank you to the community and to invite everyone to come out and have lunch on us.”
During the open house, Mayor Mel Ponder will formally address the crowd and give a presentation to thank city volunteers. City council members will also be on-hand for a meet and greet.
“It’s an informal event to get to know everyone in the city, and for use to show that we are proud of what we do here,” said Rainer.
Inside the gym booths will be showcasing the city departments and partners and a shred truck will be located in the parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide free secure shredding of documents for local businesses and residents.
Don’t miss this Destin-style celebration; come on out and eat, greet and learn what our beautiful city is all about.
