Reese Blankenship, third place, Aiden Bartlett, second place, and Lochlan Pzinski, first place, were winners in the 0-4 year old category during last year's event.

Join in the howling happenings for a frightfully fun time at Halloween Haunt at Destin Commons on Friday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. The family friendly event will be full of kid’s creepy crafts, fantasy face painting, trick-or-treating, and a costume contest for kids and dogs.

Get creative and bring the kids and dogs dressed in their Halloween bewitching best for the costume contest. Kid’s and dog’s costume contest registration is at 5 p.m. in Center Plaza, with the contest starting at 6 p.m. Come dressed to impress and you could win a hauntingly awesome assortment of prizes.

The kid’s costume contest is divided into age groups of 0 to 4, 5 to 8, and 9 to 12 year olds. Even if one doesn’t have a child in the costume contest, it is always entertaining to check out the amazing variety of imaginative and innovative costumes on parade.

“Halloween at Destin Commons has been a many year annual tradition for my family,” commented Destin resident, Ericka Van Hoosear. “We’ve gone from bringing our first child here, to now our three children and our dog. The kids (and our dog) get dressed in their favorite Halloween characters and enjoy a fangtastic good time!”

Besides the costume contest, there are plenty of other activities to keep the kids busy. Arts On The Beach and Build-A-Bear will be on hand with fantasy face painting and creepy craft projects. At 7 pm, kids can go trick-or-treating in a safe and friendly environment at participating stores throughout Destin Commons. Take a photo and tag it to #destincommons for a chance to win a $25 Destin Commons gift card.
