Come one, come all: DUMC to host Christmas feast
Destin United Methodist Church will hold it’s second annual Christmas Community Dinner on Christmas Day from 12-2 p.m. in the Destin Life Center. Everyone is invited to this free event that will include a full Christmas dinner and some Christmas entertainment.
“Last year we served 200 people and this year we hope to more than double last year’s attendants. I am planning for 800,” said Church Administrator Bud Weaver. “It’s really a community effort on Christmas Day. Last year we had 81 volunteers; it was incredible.”
To make this Christmas feast happen, DUMC enlisted help from local businesses who donated money and food items including the Destin Wal-Mart, La Familia, Destin Publix, the Crab Island Cantina, and Fudpuckers.
“Wal-Mart donated all the turkey’s and Publix is giving us a lot of gift cards,” said Weaver. “Also local chef Hayward McKenzie is making all the dressing, and another local chef John Wagner will be making all the turkeys and the hams.”
Weaver added that those coming to enjoy the feast should come hungry as there will be plenty of food to go around.
“It’s a full turkey and ham dinner,” he said. “We will have ham, turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, green beans, and dessert. We are going to have a Christmas program with music and a church member will read the Christmas story.”
The Community Christmas Dinner will be held at the DUMC Life Center located at 200 Beach Drive in Destin from 12-2 p.m. For more information call 837-2021.
