Where imbibery and debauchery work: McGuire's Mug Club a hit with more than 1,000 members

McGuire's Irish Pub bartender Johnathan Denius, right, and server Ashley Gold, pose with mug club mugs recently at the pub.

Now here’s a deal that should make anyone with a thirst to quench along the Emerald Coast take notice.

With the purchase of a 16-ounce ceramic stein, customers can enjoy special discounts every Wednesday at McGuire’s Irish Pub of Destin.

The collector’s item mug comes with a free membership to the McGuire’s Mug Club.

“Every Wednesday, once a member of the mug club, you can come and get $2 draft beers and $2.50 well drinks,” said Jeremy Merrill, assistant manager of McGuire’s Irish Pub, located at 33 E. Hwy. 98. “It’s a great deal.”

The New York Irish saloon-themed restaurant has been offering the mug club discounts since it opened at the Destin Harbor location in 1996.

“You have a mug, it has your name and whatever you want on the back,” Merrill said. “A lot of people put their nickname, their favorite college team, or something funny.”

With over 1,000 mugs purchased, the majority of the restaurant is filled with mug club members on

Wednesdays, including one of McGuire’s most loyal patrons — LTC Ret. Samuel “Sam” Lombardo, a 96-year-old National Guard veteran.

“I have been coming here for 4 years now and it feels like it was yesterday,” said Lombardo.

Lombardo says he doesn’t miss a Wednesday or Friday because of the good deals.

The mugs can be purchased at the restaurant or on the McGuire’s website at

“This place is the friendliest place I’ve ever been in,” Lombardo said. “I meet so many people here from all over the country.”
