Strike! Destin Snowbird Bowling League

A packed house at Hurricane Lanes Friday marked the launch of the annual bowling league for the Destin Snowbird Club. New and familiar faces met for the start of the winter bowl-off that will culminate in February with a pizza-party. Some teams came ready for the season with matching shirts reading, “One Pin Up,” or “The Fine Line,” while others were meeting for the first time.

For Nancy Schuble and her husband Ron this league is the highlight of their annual Destin vacation. The two have been winter visitors in Destin for four years and made lasting friends with Carol and Mel Lowe of Winnipeg, Canada, through the snowbird bowling league.

“We love to snowbird,” said Ron with a laugh.

“We are such good friends, we keep in touch all year round and we look forward to seeing them and getting down here,” added Nancy. “It’s such a neat way to get to know people. We would never have friends in Canada, but now we plan to go there and visit them this year.”
