Take a bite out of Lyme

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month and local resident Leslie Schmidt shared that this year there is a fun and easy way to help spread the word about this disease via social media.

The rules are simple: grab a lime, your phone and get ready to pucker up!

1. Take a bite: Bite a lime and take a photo or short video of the act.

2. Share a fact: State one short fact about Lyme Disease that can be found at www.lymediseasechallenge.org then share your photo or video on social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat with the hashtag #Ly-meDiseaseChallenge.

3. Pass it on: Keep the campaign going by challenging three of your friends to take the challenge.

4. Visit www.lymediseasechallenge.org to donate $10 to the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society’s 501-C3 non-profit educational fund.

“Ticks and Lyme Disease are definitely in this area and town and just trying to get awareness and prevention first and foremost,” said Schmidt. “It’s unfortunate that many still think its just up north but that’s not so.”
