Have you been wondering about the new blue-hued building at 14060 Emerald Coast Parkway across from Joe’s Crab Shack?

The project is Home2 Suites by Hilton and it is shaping up fast.

“We are starting to hang sheet rock inside and just finished water-proofing the exterior so we are currently on time to open by mid-October,” said McMurry Construction Company Project Manager Jock McMurry.

The project, which broke ground last September, will be four stories and feature 112 rooms, an outdoor fire-pit and grill area and a zero-entry pool. The hotel also features nine different room layouts including five rooms designed to exceed the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, several two-bedroom suites and spacious rooms set up for week-long stays.

“Home2 Suites is a three to five day stay model, so we build these rooms out to make them comfortable with a larger fridge, a microwave and sink, a couch and a divider curtain in some rooms to divide the living space from the bedroom,” said McMurry.

When it comes to hotels, McMurry Construction Company Inc., based out of Memphis, Tennessee, is well experienced. Licensed in 32 states, the company is no stranger to Destin projects and just finished another Home2 Suites in Austin, Texas.

“We built the Marriot Courtyard and the Residence Inn in Sandestin and also did the remodel of the Hampton Inn & Suites here in Destin,” McMurry said of his Destin projects. “We’ve been building hotels since 1978 and are probably one of the most sought-after small construction companies in the nation.”

Even with rain delays, McMurry said the Home2 Suites project in Destin is on track to finish by it’s original October completion date.

“We’ve probably had almost a month of rain delays, but we are still trying to open by Oct. 15,” he said.
