A Walton County man wanted in connection with the murder of Destin resident Osvaldo Torres-Michua has been formally charged with first degree premeditated murder, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Oscar Castaneda-Lopez, who is 36, has been held in the Walton County Jail on unrelated charges since the incident in early August. He was served the arrest warrant from the OCSO on Oct. 11 and transferred to the Okaloosa County Jail sometime after that, according to OCSO spokeswoman Michele Nicholson.

Castaneda is accused of killing Michua over the victim allegedly having an affair with Castaneda’s wife. The suspect and his wife exchanged text messages over getting rid of Michua, according to his arrest report.

Another man, 29-year-old Fidel Gonzalez, was charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly assisting Castaneda by helping him clean the crime scene and dispose of the body.

The two men buried Torres-Michua’s body in a shallow grave off of 16th Street in South Walton.

The victim is believed to have died by a stab wound to his neck.
