It’s that time of the year again. Snowbirds continue to arrive, the Christmas lights and decorations are going up, real trees are on the lots for a while and the holiday mood is being set with music piped in at the stores and shoppers taking advantage of sale prices and "good deals." It is also the time for get-togethers with families and staff celebrations at work.

Each December, the Destin Snowbird Club honors the past presidents that have served the club and the lifetime members at a dinner hosted by the executive board. This year, the dinner was held in the wine room of McGuire’s Irish Pub. Past presidents of the Destin Snowbird Club who are in Destin this year include Don Cooksey, Paul Hewitt, Nancy Hewitt, Ken Yee, George Olson, Tom Franklin. Timi Millar, Grace Fostmeier, Jeanne Boyd and Addi Selid.

Members of the current executive board of the Destin Snowbird Club include Bob Baker, Mary Pierce, Dick Cunneen, Charles Cassell. Sigrid Aeschleman, Dean Harper, Jacquelyn Roberson, Linda Zukonik and Dave Douglas.

At Tuesday’s meeting, members of the club were treated to entertainment by Bobby D. The craft show was also well attended and provided a variety of crafts for members to choose from. The next craft show will be held on Feb. 7.

President Dean Harper reminded members about participating in the annual Destin Christmas Parade on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Destin Snowbird Club will again have a float in the parade and members are urged to walk along. The annual Christmas Harbor Boat Parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 4:30-7 p.m. Members who purchased tickets will be able to view the lighted boats from the Crab Island Cantina and a buffet dinner will be provided.

The first Nine and Wine event is in the planning stages. The $27.50 cost will include nine holes of golf with cart, two free appetizers and happy-hour drink. Contact organizer Mary Pierce at marygen521@yahoo.com or call 419-250-9377 if interested in this.

The registration Tuesday netted 99 more members to the club bringing the total to date to 318. There are now 34 new members to the club registered this year. The next registration will be held next Tuesday, Dec. 13, prior to the 10 a.m. meeting from 8:30 to 9:45. This will be the last registration prior to the Big Registration from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3. No meeting will be held that week. The first meeting of the 2017 year will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at both 8:30 and 10 a.m. More information on upcoming meetings and registrations will be coming in The Destin Log and Northwest Florida Daily News later in December. Also, please check the club’s website, www.destinsnowbirds.org, frequently for updated information and answers to your questions.

And since this is the season to be jolly, you may see snowbirds out doing what they do best … being active, sociable and even helping others in some way. Perhaps we should all think about doing that.
