DESTIN — Some of Destin's future charter boat captains and anglers got to experience deep sea fishing this week.

The Destin Middle School Fishing Club went on a three-hour fishing trip aboard the Sweet Jody party boat on Tuesday.

Captain Cliff Cox took 22 students to three different spots during their trip. The fifth graders caught red snapper and triggerfish, but they had to throw them back since the fish were out of season.

"They had fun," Cox said. "All of the kids caught fish and I got lots of photos of them."

Terry Gulledge, who teaches fifth grade math at DMS and oversees the fishing club said the club tries to go fishing every couple of weeks.

"We do freshwater and saltwater fishing," he said. "They get it all."

As the school year winds down, Gulledge said this was probably one of their last trips.
