Special to GateHouse Media Florida

OKALOOSA ISLAND — The Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women will honor this year’s inductees to the Women’s Hall of Fame on Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Emerald Coast Convention Center. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. Please call 850-685-8027 to RSVP by Aug. 20 or request more details about the event.

Induction into the Hall of Fame is the Commission’s oldest and most prestigious award. Pictures of the women inducted into the Hall of Fame are displayed at the Okaloosa County Administration Building in Shalimar, the Niceville City Council chambers and in the Brackin Building in Crestview.

The women being honored freely and unselfishly volunteer their time to community activities in Okaloosa County, inspire others and act as a role models. They also have a positive impact on the direction and success of community projects, programs or individuals. Their lives and works have made significant contributions to the improvement and enhancement of life for all women and citizens in the county.

The Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women was established by the Board of County Commissioners in 1994 to recognize and honor women who have made significant contributions to the improvement of women and citizens of Okaloosa County. The membership is composed of appointments by county commissioners and representatives of various women's organizations. Each year they take nominations for the Okaloosa County Women’s Hall of Fame.
