The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has named Brannon Small as the Deputy of the Year, according to a press release from the OCSO.

He has worked there since 2017, following his honorable discharge from the Unites States Marine Corps.

In 2019, Deputy Small responded to 3,150 calls for service, made 194 arrests, wrote 225 offense reports and seized 16 firearms resulting in arrest. He is the first to assist his coworkers and the last to complain, the release said. He is self-driven and a motivated team player.

Small’s selfless service goes beyond what is required of him as a patrol deputy. In February 2019, he became a Field Training Officer and assisted in the training of 11 newly hired deputies. His trainees arrested an additional 40 law violators. He ensures each trainee understands how to perform their job effectively, why each element is important, and the role proactive policing plays on reducing crime, according to the release.

Small’s commitment to excellence routinely exceeds what is expected of a patrol deputy. He is an asset to his shift, the agency and is the role model of professionalism, the release said.
