Teen arrested for allegedly shooting another teen on a dare in Fort Walton Beach

A 14-year-old Okaloosa County girl faces aggravated battery charges for her role in a Monday morning shooting on Memorial Parkway.

Fort Walton Beach police said in a news release issued late on the day of the shooting that Zanna Martin shot the 16-year-old, as yet unidentified, victim on a dare.

The shooting occurred at shortly after 8:30 a.m. at a residence at 8 Memorial Parkway Southwest. Officers arrived on the scene to find a male teenager suffering with a single gunshot wound, the release said. He was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.   

Detectives quickly developed Martin as a suspect, the release said, and apprehended her with the assistance of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. 

Investigators learned in talking to Martin that the victim had brought the firearm to the residence where the shooting took place.

"Witnesses say this action took place because of a dare," the news release said.

The Fort Walton Beach Police Department is investigating the incidents surrounding the death of an unidentified woman.
