Brevard County residents hoping to step into the latest giant wholesale warehouse store to shop will have to wait until next month.

Costco, the world's fifth-largest retailer, announced on the local site's webpage that the grand opening will now be Dec. 9, just weeks into the year's most anticipated retail season for shoppers.

No explanation for the delay was given. Costco officials did not respond to FLORIDA TODAY requests for information.

The opening of the 16.9-acre property, located just off of the Pineda Causeway Interstate 95 exit, had been slated for Nov. 19 — the week before the great Thanksgiving push for Christmas holiday shopping.

The postponement of the retailer's grand opening of the 148,000-square-foot Viera warehouse was made without any other notice.

Costco has been selling memberships, however, to customers.

The only other Costco stores near Brevard are in Winter Park and south Orlando off U.S. 17, over 50 miles away from the Space Coast.
