New ER Canopy opens in Preparation of Trauma Verification Process

Fort Walton Beach Medical Center officially opened on Oct. 14 its new ER Canopy that was built in preparation of the trauma verification process which started June 1 and to accommodate more ambulances.

Senator Don Gaetz, Representative Matt Gaetz, Okaloosa County first responder teams, city and county officials and chamber representatives joined the leadership of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center to officially open the ER Canopy, which became operational immediately following the ceremony.

In the past seven months, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center has recruited trauma surgeons, added two trauma bays in the ER, and has also certified over 135 nurses specific to trauma care. Since June 2015, an average of 100 patients a month have received some form of trauma care at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
