Rocky Bayou students recognized for artwork

Special to the Log
Students at Rocky Bayou Christian School in Destin entered the Junior Fine Arts Competition and the Okaloosa District Art Show.

Rocky Bayou Christian School’s Destin Campus recently participated in the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS) Junior Fine Arts Competition and the Okaloosa District Art Show.

“We are so proud of our students and what they have created with God’s gifts and their hard work,” said Joe Quilit, principal.

Destin’s Rocky Bayou Christian School students entered artwork ranging from sculptures to digital photography into the junior FACCS competition. In the performing arts portion of the competition, their students recited speeches, sang and played the violin and ukulele. The majority of students earned superior and excellent ratings, qualifying them for the state competition in Lakeland in mid-May.

At the Okaloosa District Art Show, sixth graders Elijah Pollock, Zoe Grant and Naomi Thompson received ribbons for their wire sculptures and paintings.

“Elijah Pollock, who received first place for his wire sculpture of a mother and baby manatee, was inspired by a school field trip he took to Manatee Springs State Park where he experienced manatees firsthand by swimming with them,” said Mrs. Hall, art teacher. “I love that he thought to add wire algae to the manatees just like he saw in person.”

Located at First Baptist Church, the Rocky Bayou Christian School Destin campus offers students in K5 through sixth grade the excellence of an RBCS Christian education in an intimate setting.

Students begin their day in chapel with worship and devotions. With the same curriculum structure of the main campus in Niceville, students benefit from the advanced preparatory learning environment that allows them to transition seamlessly into the seventh through 12th grade academy in Niceville. Students will enjoy cutting-edge technology integration in the classroom, begin to learn Spanish and benefit from a thriving fine arts program that includes art and music.
