Code Club coming to Destin Library
Learning how computers work is becoming an increasingly important part of our children’s education. It’s not enough for children to know how to use technology; it is our responsibility to ensure they have the tools to make technology work for them.
With that in mind, the Destin Library has announced the formation of its very own Code Club. Code Club Worldwide is a branch of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the programming and coding education of today’s youth by providing free programming materials to schools and libraries. They provide registered clubs with resources and projects to engage local children by having them create websites, animations, and video games. Covered programs include Scratch 1.4, Python, and HTML5/CSS.
The Destin Library’s Code Club is open to children in grades 5-8. Meetings will be held weekly on Fridays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 16. Registration is required to participate and will be capped at 18 students. There is no cost to register. Small snacks and drinks will be provided for participating students.
For further information or to register your child for the program call the library at 850-837-8572 or email mfontaine@cityofdesitn.com.
